Jasper's Food Scene Is Heating Up

This ain’t your momma’s restaurant scene anymore, but she’ll definitely still like to eat here. Jasper’s dining options have exploded and now include everything from fine smoked meats to fine dining. Here’s a sampling of some of the Heart of Dixie’s most delicious dinners.
Los Reyes Mexican Grill
Los Reyes is Spanish for “the Kings,” and you’ll eat like one at this local favorite. From Mexican specialties like carne asada, carne al carbon and quesadillas to dishes more likely to be found north of the border like pollo loco and fish tacos, Los Reyes’ food and service will make you feel like Mexican-American royalty. But they’ll do it on a pauper’s budget.
Whether the spice of your life is variety or, well, spice, you’ll find it in Pericos’ classic Tex-Mex fare. From massive burritos to flavorful staples like chiles rellenos, you’re sure to find something to heat up your palate. Don’t worry, though, they’ve also got a killer mango margarita to cool it off.
Black Rock Bistro
The Black Rock Bistro is a perfect microcosm of Jasper’s growing economy – it manages to strike a balance between being comfortable with where it is, with local favorites like fried green tomatoes, and shooting for the stars with their rotating specialties like Catfish Pontchartrain that landed it on New York Magazine’s "50 Food Pilgrimages You Must Make" list.
BBQ: Green Top BBQ, Jim & Nick's, Full Moon BBQ, Danny's Downtown BBQ
The area's restaurant scene might be growing, but it’s still anchored by the “slow and low” cooking style of the area’s best BBQ joints. Green Top BBQ has been around (with good reason) since Harry Truman was in the White House. Danny’s Downtown BBQ smokes up the downtown area. Jim ‘N Nick's and its cheesy, biscuity goodness was named best BBQ restaurant by Alabama’s Department of Tourism in 2013. And look for newcomer Full Moon BBQ to make waves in the smoked meat market in 2014.
