What parent doesn’t want to show off pictures of their new little one?

Both Community Hospital Anderson and Saint John’s Health System make it easy for new parents with a Web site that allows sharing of baby photos. Anderson Community has the only dedicated pediatrics unit in Madison County; it received a baby-friendly award from UNICEF and the World Health Organization in 2005 for promotion and education about breastfeeding.

The hospital, affiliated with the Community Health Network, has built a reputation, too, in women’s services. It runs The Comfort Shoppe, which sells cancer-related products.

Community Hospital Anderson has about 180 beds and its own clinical research center, which conducts clinical trials on medical devices and new drug treatments. Professional Research Consultants in 2007 gave it four-star awards for its emergency and outpatient surgery departments.

Saint John’s, with about 260 beds, became a ministry of St. Vincent Health in 2003. National health care quality company HealthGrades awarded Saint John’s stroke treatment with its highest rating for the past two years and ranked it in the country’s top five percent for clinical quality performance.

Saint John’s operates a clinic, a cancer center, two rehabilitation centers, its own hospice, an addiction treatment facility and a separate facility for orthopedic surgery.
The city of Anderson has health care options for young and old. The Med One Urgent Care Center on Scatterfield Road is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

For aging residents, Community Hospital Anderson has a skilled nursing facility on-site and owns three other nursing homes in Madison County. It also runs a freestanding facility for residents with Alzheimer’s.

LifeStream, a United Way agency, has several sites in Anderson, including three senior cafés that help older residents remain independent.

United Way of Madison County also supports the Madison County Community Health Clinic, which has medical, dental and optical services, and the Center for Mental Health Inc., with counseling, inpatient and outpatient treatment programs for adults and children with mental illness, behavior disorders and addiction problems.
