From international corporate headquarters to small craft shops, Anderson attracts enterprises and entrepreneurs from every walk of life. Its prime location on Interstate 85 and proximity to interstates 385 and 26 has made Anderson a regional hub for global business.

The city is also in the process of restoring its downtown area, where new life is being given to old landmarks.

Thanks in part to its numerous business parks and industrial sites, the core of the local economy is manufacturing. More than two dozen corporate headquarters and over 20 international companies are located in Anderson and the surrounding areas of the county, according to Anderson Partnership, an organization that encourages local economic development.

These diverse businesses produce a range of items, from to Electrolux kitchen appliances to Hanson aggregates and everything in between. The city is home to technology-based corporations such as Robert Bosch, carpet-manufacturer Orian Rugs and an array of automotive parts manufacturers.

Meanwhile, Anderson’s downtown is on the up-and-up. Instead of feeling like the new kids in on the block, newly opened small businesses are being welcomed with open arms and smiling faces – no surprise for a place dubbed The Friendly City.

In fact, many businesses introduce new friends right when you walk in the door. At Kakilaki Clay & Arts, hobbyists can meet others with similar interests by signing up for creative classes that include painting, woodcutting and glass fusing. The same thing happens at Two Gather Beads, where prospective jewelry shoppers get together to design their own pieces after browsing through the bins of semi-precious stones, pearls and glass.

And sharing a drink with a new acquaintance has never been easier. The Kitchen Emporium & Gifts hosts a variety of activities, during which attendees can commiserate over lacking knife skills, get toasty in grilling class or opine over wine tastings. Fun, relaxing and full of flavor, these events are a great place to meet a fellow foodie.
