Renovated Hotels Put Luxury Condos on Downtown's Doorstep
Downtowns across America are welcoming residents back into the fold after years of dwelling in suburbia. In Anderson, this is no thrown-together affair but a carefully planned project, where choosing to live downtown means you are choosing to live in gorgeous structures with both history and flair.
It also means you have access to a myriad of restaurants, numerous nightlife options and even the farmers’ market – all without ever having to get into your car.
One of the most beautiful examples of downtown living is The Calhoun. Originally the John C. Calhoun Hotel, the building opened in 1925 to the area’s most sophisticated guests. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the grand hotel has been lovingly recreated into 40 luxury downtown condominiums.
The lobby, which was seen in the movie “Leatherheads” with Renee Zellweger and George Clooney, has the original beamed ceiling, chandeliers, tile floor and marble. Residents enjoy all the perks you would expect from a five-star hotel, such as a private fitness center, exclusive parking and high-speed elevators.
The Chiquola adds another 18 condos to the luxury living market. Another restored hotel from 1889, The Chiquola became apartments in the 1960s. The foundation is made from solid granite six feet deep, providing the perfect base for the renovated condos.
Amenities for residents abound here, like the wine cellar and walk-in humidor, rooftop terrace and Jacuzzi tubs. Condo owners will also have access to the elite Chiquola Club. There they will experience fine dining, a jazz bar, billiard room and cigar bar.
For downtown loft living, check out Benson Street Apartments, which are currently under construction. Other downtown real estate includes Sharpe Street Apartments and Wilmary Apartments, with the latter catering to seniors. Retirees also have The Garden House, which provides amenity-rich apartments for independent living.
