Come on in – the water’s fine at Beaver Lake.

The massive lake, formed in 1960 by a dam across the White River, covers 70 miles through the Ozark Mountains and more than 28,000 acres. The lake is one of four projects in the upper White River Basin built for flood control and generating power. The perk is recreation in every direction. Camping, boating, picnicking, hiking, swimming and fishing beckon area residents and visitors alike.

Beaver Lake is just one of many wonders in the great outdoors in the Rogers area.

War Eagle Cavern, which opened 30 years ago, is located between Rogers and Eureka Springs. The underground coolness provides relief from summertime heat, and guided tours into the cavern provide a glimpse of its natural wonder and the area’s history, too.

The new Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area is Arkansas’ largest state park in area, with a whopping 12,045 acres along the southern shore of Beaver Lake. Four trails were opened during the first stage of the park’s development – Shaddox Hollow Trail, Pigeon Roost Trail, Historic Van Winkle Trail and Hidden Diversity Trail. A visitors center is planned for completion in fall 2008. The park is the only Arkansas state park where hunting is permitted.

For the golf buff, the Rogers area is paradise. With the Lost Springs Golf Course, Shadow Valley Golf Course, Pinnacle Golf Course, the Greens Golf Course and Prairie Creek Golf Course, choices for a round of golf are abundant.

Lost Springs, at the Lost Springs Golf and Athletic Club, is an 18-hole, par-72 course opened in 1992. Shadow Valley is at the Shadow Valley Country Club and Pinnacle is at the Pinnacle Country Club. The Greens course at The Greens on Blossom Way is a 9-hole course. Prairie Creek Country Club’s course is 18 holes and opened in 1964.
