Mountain Biking in the Asheville, NC Region
Some of the highest peaks in the East can be found in western North Carolina. With miles of trails winding through them, the terrain attracts mountain bikers from all over the world. Even Asheville locals – some of whom are world-renowned cyclists themselves – can find a quick, easy ride nearby.
“Asheville is fortunate in that there are world-class trails within a convenient 10-minute drive from town,” says Asheville resident Ben Wootten, sales manager at Liberty Bicycles. “Bent Creek is at the top of the triangle that is the Pisgah National Forest, and one could ride off-pavement all the way to Brevard.
"The DuPont State Forest is just a short drive to the east of the main entrance to Pisgah," Wootten says. "Then there are a few more challenging trails between Black Mountain and Old Fort to the east of Asheville.”
Even the famous Biltmore Estate has its own mountain bike trails – 23 miles worth – ranging in skill levels from easy to difficult.
Want to meet some fellow mountain bikers and jump into some organized rides? Check out the Pisgah Area Mountain Biking Meetup. All skill levels and ages are welcome.
“Given that the weather allows you to ride year round, Asheville is the jackpot of East Coast riding.”
