Laughing Seed Café in Asheville
Experience the unique and complex flavors of international vegetarian cuisine at Laughing Seed Café. Locally grown products and organic ingredients, combined with the flair for global fusion, give this restaurant’s dishes a distinctive and delicious character that vegetarians and meat lovers alike will love.
Named for the seed of a legendary plant considered to be an amazing, satisfying food by the inhabitants of the Indonesian island of Bouton, Laughing Seed Café originally opened in 1991 as a simple lunch counter located on the lower level of the YMCA. After owners Joan and Joe Eckert moved the restaurant to its current downtown Wall Street location in 1993, Laughing Seed’s interior was transformed to feel like a soothing oasis on an exotic island, with tropical colors, a babbling fountain and a lively mural of the rainforest.
A wide range of exciting global flavors to suit the most adventurous tastes make up Laughing Seed’s award-winning cuisine, and menu selections change seasonally based upon the availability of fresh local ingredients. Choose from items such as the spinach-pesto manicotti, Szechuan mung sprout rolls, tico taco salad or Seitan etoufee. Save room for dessert and try the vegan chocolate-studded bread pudding with organic berry compote, torta di limone or other decadent favorites.
Laughing Seed Café serves lunch Monday through Saturday, dinner seven nights a week, and a special organic Sunday brunch.
