Bend Hospital Boasts Numerous Awards Including Top 100 Ranking
For nearly 90 years, Central Oregonians have trusted St. Charles Bend Medical Center to provide accessible, advanced health care in a carefully cultivated healing environment.
The 261-bed hospital in Bend, which serves more than 240,000 people in a 32,000-square-mile region, was designed with large windows that let natural light pour in on patients and highlight Oregon’s beautiful scenery.
St. Charles Bend is Oregon’s only Level 2 regional trauma center east of the Cascades, and the hospital has worked to develop specialized partnerships in heart, cancer, orthopedics and neurosurgery. The hospital also boasts an 18-bed inpatient rehabilitation center for patients suffering from stroke, head injuries and other debilitating illnesses.
In addition to its in-house offerings, St. Charles Bend has access to the resources of the greater Cascade Healthcare Community, which operates hospitals throughout the region.
St. Charles Bend is also a center of excellence for specialties, and functions as the regional referral center for specialty care. The medical staff of 250 physicians offering 40 specialties treats patients from around the region, including the communities of John Day, Lakeview, Burns, Prineville, Madras, Redmond, Sisters, La Pine and Warm Springs. Hospital services include a critical care unit, epilepsy monitoring, general surgery, laboratory services, lithotripsy, outpatient surgery and pastoral care.
St. Charles Bend is accredited by the Joint Commissioner of the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
When it comes to honors and designations, St. Charles Bend is running out of wall space. In 2005, the hospital was ranked among Thomson’s top 100 hospitals list. Other awards include the Distinguished Hospital Award for Patient Safety and the Spine Surgery Excellence Award from HealthGrades in 2008, and the Norman Cousins Award, the Big Cog Award and the Oregon Quality Award.
