Vermont Maple Open House Weekend Sweetens Spring in Burlington
In Burlington there is always something sweet to do, like the Vermont Maple Open House Weekend.
From the first of March until the middle of April is considered sugaring season in Vermont. The maple trees are awakened from a long winter and ready to be tapped for the 100% organic, sticky and sweet maple syrup that will cover pancakes all over the U.S.
During the Open House Weekend visitors can tour several of the sugarhouses where they cook the sugar in the same traditional methods used for generations. Tree tapping demonstrations and tutorials on how to make the best maple syrups, creams and even hard candies are other events offered during the weekend.
A few of the local sugarmakers near Burlington are End-O-Road Maple in Jericho, VT, where they give educational tours and sell their signature syrups; the Comeau Family Sugarhouse in Williston is open every Saturday and Sunday during the sugar season; and Bixby Hill Sugar House in Essex Junction displays old tapping and cooking equipment for guests to enjoy.
