Castle Rock

It’s easy to find exercise opportunities in Castle Rock, with many outdoor and indoor recreation choices available to residents. Here are some options:

Parks

Castle Rock maintains 20 developed parks that can include playgrounds and playing fields to passive native areas and hiking trails. A city mandate that new developers donate 20 percent or more of their total land for use as open space means residents have easy access to parks near their homes.

Philip S. Miller Regional Park is a much-used facility that includes a Miller Activity Complex, while the other parks are Baldwin, Bison, Butterfield, Castle Highlands, Castle North, Castlewood Canyon State Park, Centennial, Festival, Founders, Gemstone, Glovers Tot Lot, Matney, Metzler Ranch, Mitchell Gulch, Paintbrush, Plum Creek, Rhyolite Regional and Rosecrown. Among the area’s open spaces are Gateway Mesa, Hidden Mesa, Memmen Ridge, Native Legend, Quarry Mesa, Ridgeline, Rock Park and the Bowl.

Trails

Castle Rock residents take advantage of a variety of hiking and mountain biking trails, which ascend into the foothills but also link neighborhoods and downtown for a convenient and easily accessible trail system. Among the 75 miles of sustainably built trails, both concrete and soft, are Mitchell Creek, Canyon Trail, Plum Creek and the Mitchell Creek Trail System.

Golf

Castle Rock is known for its outstanding golf courses, and the city was included on Livability.com’s 10 Best Golf Cities list. Perfect your swing at Bear Dance, Perry Park Country Club, Plum Creek Golf Club, Red Hawk Ridge Golf Course, The Country Club at Castle Pines and The Ridge at Castle Pines North.

For the Dogs

Puppy pals in the area enjoy several off-leash parks. Devon’s Dog Park, located in the Greenland Open Space, is a 17-acre spot on the east side of the trailhead. Bayou Gulch Regional Park offers more than two off-leash acres and is adjacent to 2.5 miles of on-leash trails on the east side of Fox Sparrow Road. Fairgrounds Regional Park downtown has two-plus acres available for canine cavorting, and Glendale Farm has a 17-acre off-leash dog park adjacent to Glendale Trail.

Indoor Soccer

Castle Rock Soccer Buddies is an indoor soccer program whose mission is to build fitness, fun, skill levels and meaningful confidence in kids. The arena inside the Miller Activity Complex at Philip S. Miller Park features artificial turf and offers leagues throughout the year, with many age groups accommodated.

Fairgrounds

Douglas County Fairgrounds and Events Center offers spacious indoor and outdoor arenas used for equine events, trade shows, rodeos, auctions and more.

Aquatics

The Philip S. Miller Park’s Miller Activity Complex contains four lap lanes, an indoor leisure pool with a slide, and party rooms. The Castle Rock Recreation Center’s aquatic program includes exercise classes, swim lessons, lifeguard training and more. It maintains a 25-yard pool and a leisure pool. The city also offers swimmers two outdoors pools, Butterfield Crossing Park Pool and Burgess Pool at Centennial Park, which operate seasonally.
