Located in City Park, the Pueblo Zoo is home to more than 420 animals of 140 different species. Stroll through the zoo's beautiful garden grounds to see popular animal exhibits, including North American Grasslands, Serengeti Safari, Australian Outback, Asian Adventure and World of Color.

Go to the zoo's Ecocenter and discover naked mole rats living in an underground world and penguins that appear to fly underwater. Watch river otters swim and play at the Pioneer Ranch, where children can see their favorite farm animals up close.

The Pueblo Zoo holds educational programs and summer camps for kids of all ages, and children get their own private animal show at birthday parties there. Adults can rent the zoo's Mandari Hut,  a great gathering spot for parties, company picnics and much more.

Community events are held year-round at the Pueblo Zoo. ElectriCritters, the zoo's largest event, is an annual holiday light show during which visitors can stroll through the zoo surrounded by animated lighted animal figures and thousands of twinkling lights, while holiday music plays in the background.

"The proceeds from this event help the zoo operate during the winter and go to the care and feeding of all the zoo's 420-plus animals," says Gloria Madrill, the zoo's special events and marketing coordinator.

Be sure to stop by the Candy Cane Café during ElectriCritters for hot chocolate, popcorn and other tasty holiday treats.
