Stephen D. Lee Home and Museum in Columbus

History buffs will enjoy the Stephen D. Lee Home and Museum in Columbus. Once the home to the Confederate general who gave the order to fire the first shot on Fort Sumter, the building now serves as a Civil War museum, complete with artifacts from the period.

The home was completed in 1847 by Major Thomas Garton Blewett who passed it down through his family. Severely damaged by fire in the late 1950s, the home was quickly restored by the Historical Society and the Society for Preservation of Antiques. This antebellum landmark is now listed on the National Registry and is open every Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The downstairs portion of the home can be rented out for meetings, weddings, or other special events.
