Elizabeth City is not called “The Harbor of Hospitality” for nothing. The nickname is derived from the renowned Mariners' Wharf Park, a legendary 14-slip dock on the Pasquotank River and part of the 3,000-mile Intracoastal Waterway.
Mariners' Wharf not only offers free 48-hour dockage, but each boat is greeted by the “Elizabeth City Rose Buddies” with a warm welcome and, of course, a rose.
To promote Elizabeth City's Downtown Waterfront, Music on the Green, a free eight-week concert series featuring local music, began last fall at Mariners' Wharf Park.
And on those beautiful summer nights, visitors can attend the Mariners' Wharf Film Festival every Tuesday, featuring classic American films that are free and open to the public.
At the end of every spring, Elizabeth City hosts the North Carolina Potato Festival – a celebration of one of the area's largest crops – that features fun-filled activities for children and adults alike on the Wharf.
But the fun is not over when it gets cold; the Downtown Waterfront Market at Mariners' Wharf Park operates on Tuesdays and Saturdays featuring fresh fruits, vegetables, seafood and other goods from local vendors and has continued to host events into December.
