Every November award-winning artists display their work at the Gainesville Downtown Festival and Arts Show. The downtown area is transformed into an art lovers paradise. The event usually draws close to 100,000 people from across the country to view and purchase some of he countries most spectacular art.

The City of Gainesville Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs hosts the two-day extravaganza. Every platform of expression can be found along the streets of downtown. Visitors can interact with artists as they sculpt, paint or draw on the sidewalks. Performing artists put on shows highlighting local musicians and dance companies from every genre.

The show also ensures people don't go away hungry. More than 20 food vendors set up around the festival whipping up dishes such as authentic Pad Thai, Cajun jambalaya and even homemade ice cream.

Kids are not left out of the culturally rich activities. The “Imagination Station” is an area specifically for children where they can unleash their creativity and get messy. Volunteers from the art education program at the University of Florida design the crafts and help the kids create mini-masterpieces such as hand painted masks, clay sculptures or puppets.
