Health and wellness options are plentiful in Natchez and Adams County, from a couple of major hospitals to nursing homes and hospice organizations. The county has approximately 400 health-care employees.

Elder Care and Assisted Living

Natchez has several nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Adams Nursing Home, which has 100 Medicare/Medicaid beds, was named among the nation’s best nursing homes by U.S. News & World Report in 2014.

Other nursing homes include Glenburney Nursing Home and Trace Haven Health & Rehab. The latter, a 58-bed center, participates in Medicare and Medicaid and provides resident counseling services.

Magnolia Village is not a nursing home, but a facility designed for people who no longer feel comfortable living 100 percent independently in their own homes.

Home Health and Hospice

There are about six hospice organizations in Natchez and close to twice as many home health providers.

Notable ones include Sta-Home Health & Hospice, a Mississippi-based company that provides home health assistance in Adams County. Its range of services includes skilled nursing, physical and occupational therapy and dietary counseling.

Deaconess HomeCare and Hospice Services is one of the state’s largest Medicare-certified home health agencies and one of the 10 largest in the country.

Hospice Compassus, headquartered in Brentwood, Tenn., has a full-service facility in Natchez. It features pain- and symptom-controlled care around patient and family goals, with physician-directed comfort care, specialized nursing and spiritual counseling.

Hospitals

Natchez Regional Medical Center and Natchez Community Hospital together comprise a total of nearly 300 hospital beds. The 101-bed Natchez Community Hospital has been operating since 1973, offering an array of medical services and placing an emphasis on innovation in health care. It is also a Joint Commission-accredited facility.

The county-owned Natchez Regional is in negotiation for a sale to Brentwood, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, which had signed a letter of intent to buy the hospital in late spring 2014. The medical center, which serves five Mississippi counties and two Louisiana parishes, is licensed for 179 beds. It is accredited with the Joint Commission.
