West Des Moines’ proximity to Des Moines provides perks for the city’s thriving business climate. West Des Moines provides a great environment for job hunting thanks to its appeal to both big and small companies, as well as those businesses just beginning. In fact in 2012, the city ranked number one on Forbes' list of best cities to find a job.

Business Climate

West Des Moines is home to big names like Wells Fargo and Hy-Vee, and the area's most successful industries are technology, finance, health care and insurance. Like many communities near big-city Des Moines, West Des Moines hosts several financial services and professional-services businesses.

Startups

CNN’s Money rated West Des Moines as one of the 100 best places to live and launch in the country. The city touts itself as Iowa’s Fastest Growing Community because the city’s size and population have nearly doubled since 1990. The growth in both areas attract an educated workforce, the ideal employees for a new business.

Transportation

West Des Moines is located near three interstate highways, I-35, I-80 and Iowa State Highway 65, making the city easily accessible.

The city is also short drive from the Des Moines International Airport. About 15 minutes from West Des Moines, the Des Moines International Airport serves public and private travel and economic activities. The airport is one of the top 50 airports in the country for air cargo tonnage.

Des Moines Area Regional Transit and Iowa Interstate Railroad provide West Des Moines with both bus routes and railways.
