The natural beauty found in the Rocky Mountains and along the Boise River attracts outdoor lovers to Boise, Idaho. But Boise isn’t just about the great outdoors. This city also offers an amazing variety of popular breweries that have grabbed the attention of beer connoisseurs from all over the country. From the classic Highlands Hollow Brewery to modern 10 Barrel Brewery, Boise has an impressive and diverse ale trail. These breweries not only attract tourists, but also enjoy popularity within their community as they support local businesses and artists. Here are just a few of Boise’s most popular breweries.

Payette Brewing

Payette Brewing is popular not only for great beer, but for its contribution to the community. Along with support of local artists and musicians, Payette’s tasting room is wildly popular with its down-to-earth atmosphere. The tasting room is “a great place to catch up with friends or watch the game” and is just in front of their brewery, so guests can check out the brewing system. There’s no food served, but guests love that Payette’s supports different local food trucks every day of the week.

Crooked Fence Brewing

Crooked Fence is famous for their award-winning brews. Not only that, but guests frequent for food perfectly paired with their craft beers. Guests can know these brews are matched perfectly to all of their amazing dishes. Beyond their award-winning brews, Crooked Fence boasts authentic brew art that establishes their own unique brand.

10 Barrel Brewing Company

10 Barrel aims to “brew beer, drink beer and have fun doing it!” and they certainly achieve that goal. From their West-Coast style Apocalypse IPA to the Sinister Black Ale, this brewery’s selection has enough variety to shock any beer enthusiast. Their fun-loving vibe stands out from other popular breweries and is a must-visit for anyone looking for a great time. Come for free brewery tours every Friday from 3 to 4 p.m., and keg sales off the dock 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Highlands Hollow Brewhouse

Highlands Hollow Brewhouse is a Boise classic, originally established in 1968 as the Brass Lamp. It’s nationally popular among extreme athletes, hikers, skiers, mountain bikers, and, of course, beer enthusiasts. In addition to popular brews, their farm-fresh menu is outstanding, from artisanal breads to soups. Overall, it’s a top experience with excellent beer, great food and friendly service.

Kilted Dragon Brewing

Kilted Dragon Brewing is well known for their “outside-the-box” brews. From their Dirty Blonde Highland Honey to their Frost Bridge Scottish Ale, their selection is far enough outside the box to please any adventurous beer connoisseur. They’re also happy to entertain with a live music venue hosting dozens of local artists, and on more casual weeknights, guests hang out and play shuffleboard and darts.
