Carbondale, IL's Holiday Parade

April 28, 2011 at 11:57 am EST

The entire city of Carbondale puts on a show around the holidays with their annual Lights Fantastic parade.

The event is hosted by Carbondale's Main Street, an organization that promotes business and community related events in the city, and many local businesses sponsor floats in the parade that light up the streets of downtown.

Children can write and mail letters to Santa at the Old Train Depot while they eat homemade holiday cookies.

A recent addition to the pre-parade events is a special holiday tea the entire family can enjoy. The tea is held at the Carbondale Civic Center where guests can snack on light cookies and tea while enjoying images and artifacts of the cities history.

Even after the last float passes by the party still isn't over. Many participating businesses also offer great post-parade deals at some of the city's best restaurants, and reduced ticket prices at the Varsity Center for the Arts are common, too.
