Jonesboro is a stone's throw from a dizzying list of restaurant choices in Atlanta, but good food with a local flair without even driving to the city can be found in Clayton County, too, from barbecue and Thai food to one of the largest farmers markets in the world for stocking the kitchen with fresh from the farm food.

Barbecue at Dean's Barbeque

For more than half a century, barbecue lovers have know that Dean's Barbeque on South Main Street is the best spot to pick up open-pit smoked, tender, chopped pork served with a vinegar-based sauce. There is an outdoor seating area for customers, but most just drive up and take the food to go. Their "hot deal" consists of two sandwiches, chips and a drink.

The Dwarf House Jonesboro

For an interesting spin on a typical trip to Chick-fil-A, head to the Chick-fil-A Dwarf House of Jonesboro on Tara Boulevard. The Dwarf House is the family dining concept of Chick-fil-A- Inc., and there are only a handful of locations. At The Dwarf House, diners will find a menu greatly expanded from Chick-fil-A's usual offerings.
