Schools Put Bowling Green at the Top of the Class

Excellence in education is a proud tradition in Bowling Green. The Bowling Green Independent Schools district and Warren County Public Schools provide top-notch public schooling from kindergarten through high school. There are also a number of private schools.
Public and Private Schools
Bowling Green Independent Schools, which serves most of the city, has five elementary schools, one junior high school and two high schools. Warren County Public Schools serve county students with 13 elementary schools, three middle schools and four high schools.
Private schools in Bowling Green include a number of religious institutions, such as the Saint Joseph School, Old Union School, Foundation Christian Academy, Bowling Green Christian Academy and Anchored Christian School.
Western Kentucky University
Post-secondary education has a shining star here in Western Kentucky University, set on a hill overlooking the city. The quality public schools have drawn national attention, as well. In 2008, Bowling Green High School earned a silver medal from U.S. News & World Report in its Best High Schools Search and also was named one of America’s top high schools in 2008 by Newsweek magazine.
Centrally located WKU, founded in 1906, is home to the Hilltoppers. With more than 19,000 students, WKU offers four-year degree programs in 88 academic majors and 57 academic minors. There are also 18 associate degree programs, as well as graduate studies. Its main, 200-acre College Heights campus is undergoing building and renovations to better meet the needs of students.
The university has also focused on providing a “green” setting for its campus with open spaces, trees and other landscaping.
Bowling Green Technical College and Draughons Junior College
Bowling Green Technical College and Draughons Junior College provide other post secondary education options. BGTC students can earn associate degrees, diplomas and certificates in 30 or more programs. BGTC also is the home for the Adult Education Center in town for GED programs, ESL and family literacy.
