It’s “game on” in Danville and Boyle County, where residents have many choices for sports and recreational activities, both indoors and outdoors.

Take It Outside

Parks in Boyle County provide residents and visitors with activities to enjoy all year, and Millennium Park in Danville is one of the biggest in the area. Millennium features baseball, football, soccer and softball fields, a skate park, playgrounds, dog park, picnic areas, walking trails and a lake.

At Cowan Street Park, an open field allows a variety of uses that include football, soccer and baseball practices; a basketball court and playgrounds are also in the park. Henry Jackson Park in Danville has baseball fields and playgrounds and has undergone some recent improvements, doubling the size of its paved walking trail to 1.2 miles and adding nine holes to its disc golf course to make the venue a full 18-hole facility.

The William E. “Bunny” Davis Recreation Complex is a popular recreation resource for residents, with racquetball and tennis courts, an outdoor 25-meter swimming pool, step/aerobic and dance classes, and free weights and cardiovascular equipment areas. There is also a wallyball court and basketball courts, and karate classes are available.

McDowell Wellness Center is a family-oriented health and wellness facility in Danville that offers a six-lane indoor pool, aerobics studio and a 5,000-square-foot workout area. Trainers can help improve your flexibility, strength, energy level and endurance. Club memberships are available.

History Plays a Big Role in Danville & Boyle County

Fish and Fowl

Herrington Lake, the deepest lake in Kentucky, offers boating opportunities and fishing spots to cast for bass, catfish and bluegill. Also open to everyone free of charge from dawn to dusk every day is the Central Kentucky Wildlife Refuge, just 15 minutes outside Danville. The refuge features 5 miles of nature trails and a 500-acre preserve for a variety of birds, plants and other wildlife.

If Golf Is Your Bag

Try hitting ‘em long and straight at two well-regarded courses in Boyle County that are open year round. Danville Country Club is a private facility with a restaurant, card room, locker room and shower facilities. The club has six lighted tennis courts and an outdoor Olympic-size heated swimming pool. Old Bridge Golf Club is a semi-private destination near the banks of Herrington Lake, with 18 holes spanning 6,790 yards.
