The Music Room Café in George J's is a happening place in 2013.

George J. Ellis Mercantile began in the late 1880s in downtown Glasgow, and the historic building on the square has seen numerous tenants over the years. Now it's a full-service restaurant that also books live rock bands on weekends.

The Music Room Café in George J's was established in late 2011 by Daniel and Angela Neukomm, who both have experience in the restaurant business.

“When we started The Music Room Café, one thing that worked previously on this site was having live bands perform on the weekends once or twice a month,” Daniel Neukomm says. “So we decided to expand on it and now have live bands on stage every Friday and Saturday night.”

The Music Room Café has a full bar, but Neukomm is quick to point out that the establishment is not a lounge or nightclub.

“We are a restaurant,” he says. “We open at 7 a.m. for breakfast Monday-Saturday, and have lunch Monday-Saturday until 2 p.m. Dinners are Thursday-Saturday, with karaoke on Thursday nights and the live bands on Friday and Saturday beginning at 8 p.m.”

The dinner menu ranges from chicken wings and pizza to high-end items like lasagna and steamed mussels.
