Somerset Restaurants Serve Up Homemade Eats
Schafer’s Catering. Schafer’s Catering is a popular, family-operated catering service that has been in business since 2000. The catering service has worked functions for the governor, for U.S. Congressman “Hal” Rogers and for country music stars Charlie Daniels and John Michael Montgomery. Karen Schafer, the founder of the service, says her specialty items, the lasagna and homemade pies, are both requested at virtually every function she caters. A Marina Resort Another great Somerset restaurant is located at Lee's Ford Resort Marina. The marina’s remodeled and expanded Harbor Restaurant & Tavern now serves beer, wine and mixed drinks – along with Mediterranean cuisine and classic American fare – in a laid-back atmosphere. The adjacent tavern features an oak bar from the 1800s. An Apple A Day Every year, youngsters come by the busloads to spend a day at Haney’s Appledale Farm. There the young and the young-at-heart are welcome to walk up and down the apple orchards, tour the farm, or have a seat in the pie shop where customers can eat muffins, fried apples, caramel apples or Haney’s delicious apple pie. Whether it’s a homemade pie, a lakeside view, a caramel apple or a tavern where you can park your boat and hang your hat, each restaurant in Somerset does their part to serve up their own taste of Kentucky.
