La Plata is home to landmarks such as St. Ignatius Church, founded in 1641 and the nation's oldest active Catholic parish; and Christ Episcopal Church, which has been in existence since 1683. Meanwhile, the area is modern in business, with a strong technology sector, international companies, advanced agriculture and tourism.
