Adventure Vacation

Averaging 350 days of sunshine each year, Las Cruces, NM, is a great place for a spring break adventure.

Head to the Corralitos Ranch to ride horses and mules through hills and canyons, and check out historic landmarks along the way. Individual participants and groups of as many as 10 people can ride for two hours at a time or enjoy an eight-hour trip.

Horseback riding is also available through the Organ Mountains, as well as hiking and biking. The mountains feature two main recreation areas – Aguirre Springs and Dripping Springs/La Cueva – both of which are perfect for adventure seekers. Traverse the six-mile Baylor Pass trail and, once you've made it to the top, take in the view. Look west and you'll see the Rio Grande Valley. Look east and you can spot the dunes of the White Sands National Monument. Hikers can also follow a trail that leads to the old Dripping Springs Resort, a former hotel and sanctuary for tuberculosis sufferers, and yet another trail goes to La Cueva, a mountain cave that is thought to have sheltered prehistoric Mogollon Indians.

If you're willing to travel outside the city for an adventure, make your way to Spaceport America, the world's first purpose-built, commercial spaceport situated in Sierra County. Another option is the Gila National Forest, located in Silver City, which offers hundreds of miles of hiking trails, as well as primitive and developed camp grounds.
