Looking for a little local art? Look no further than The Southern Virginia Artisan Center and its gallery offering original artwork.
Opened in 2005, the Gallery works in unison with Patrick Henry Community College and the School of Crafts and Design, featuring work from students, instructors and local artists alike. Art forms of all kinds can be found inside, including folk art, photography, painting, quilted artwork, weaving, pottery and more. Visitors will also find functional art such as decorative home accents, furniture pieces and jewelry in store.
The Artisan Center also holds classes in an array of different subjects. The classes offered include traditional art classes such as pottery and photography workshops, but also extend to the culinary arts and mixed media.
The newest addition is the Martinsville-Henry County Visitors Center, co-located in the facility and available to give guests a better idea about the County and all it has to offer. There, visitors will find tips about local attractions and businesses as well information on the state of Virginia.
As well as display its artists' talent, the gallery functions as a retail and consignment shop, open seven days a week in its Church Street location, excluding major holidays.
