Martinsville and Henry County's food scene includes an impressive farmers market, award-winning barbecue, many international offerings including Italian and Mexican, and a curiously addictive hot dog.

Uptown Martinsville Farmers' Market

Find fresh foods throughout most of spring and summer at the Uptown Martinsville Farmers’ Market, which operates under the direction of the nonprofit Martinsville Uptown Revitalization Association. The market attracts approximately 30 vendors and several hundred visitors each week. Vendors sell produce, baked goods, fresh eggs, candy, plants, artwork and fresh Atlantic seafood. The market is well known throughout the region for its impressive selection and festive atmosphere.

Barbecue

Barbecue lovers applaud Pigs-R-Us BBQ. The restaurant’s signature ribs have won numerous awards and recognition since 2000 – including winning the 2004 Best in the West Rib Cook-Off in Reno, Nev. and being featured on the Food Network in 2010. The restaurant is a member of the Kansas City Barbeque Society and National Barbecue Association.

Italian Restaurants

It's easy to tell from the restaurant's name the featured dish at Najjar's Pizza Haven, but it's important to note that home-cooked Italian favorites like Chicken or Veal Parmigiana, Manicott and Chicken Linguini also fill out the menu at this popular eatery in nearby Collinsville. Another popular pizza place in the area is Elizabeth’s, a favorite with the racing crowd for more than 30 years.

Mexican

Mexican food fans will find plenty of South of the Border flavors in Martinsville and Henry County. Enjoy homemade salsa, $2 lime margaritas on Tuesdays and Thursdays and an array of authentic dishes at Mi Ranchito on Memorial Boulevard in Martinsville. Another option to satisfy your craving for fajitas, chalupas and chimichangas is El Norteno on East Church Street, which has a sister location in Collinsville. Also in Collinsville, enjoy outdoor dining on the patio at El Ranchito, on Virginia Avenue.

Martinsville Hot Dog

But perhaps the most famous Martinsville food is available only a few weeks of the year. The must-have menu item at the Martinsville Speedway NASCAR track is simply called the Martinsville hot dog. The hot dog doesn’t look like anything special, and its ingredients include the mysterious “Red 40,” which gives the hot dog its distinctive color. But race fans, drivers and team members have been known to down the delightful dogs in bunches, helping them achieve cult status on the NASCAR circuit.

Cafe at Arts & Deli

For a more urbane environment, the Cafe at Arts & Deli offers an eclectic blend of a coffee shop, cafe, gift shop and local hangout in UpTown Martinsville. Sandwiches are made to order, served on a choice of bread, bagel or croissant with fresh meats and cheeses, and fresh baked goodies like cookies, cakes, brownies and tarts complement the cafe's gourmet coffee.
