The McAllen Artwalk attracts a large number admirers every month. The free event brings together many mediums of art, and encourages residents of the Rio Grande Valley to support their local artists.
The self-guided gallery tour occurs on the first Friday of every month, September through May. It happens in one of the oldest parts of McAllen and involves numerous art galleries and art hosts, all open for guests' to view. Walkers can start their tour at any location and make their way through the galleries as they please.
Now in its 7th season, the Artwalk was started by a group of local gallery owners, and encourages and promotes the arts throughout the Rio Grande Valley, and brings residents in to take a look at a little local culture. The works shown change regularly, and include everything from paintings and pottery to glass artistry and printmaking.
The Artwalk has helped McAllen emerge as an arts and cultural center in the Rio Grande Valley, as well as boost the recognition of many of its local artists. So when the first Friday of the month rolls around, McAllen residents can revel in their own cultural contribution. The evening exhibits begin at 6 p.m., and stay open until 10 p.m.
