La Plata and Charles County is a shopping mecca, with something for everyone’s tastes. Residents have some of the best shopping conveniences – all within a 10- or 15-minute drive.

One top retail option is Waldorf Marketplace, a spacious 60-acre complex which features tenants such as DSW Shoes, Famous Footwear, HomeGoods, Kinkaid Furniture, Mimi’s Café, Office Depot, TGI Fridays, TJ Maxx and Walgreens.

Another shopping hotspot in the county is the St. Charles Towne Center Mall, a 1.2 million-square-foot mall with such well-known anchor tenants at Sears, Macy’s, J.C. Penney, Kohl’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods. The mall has undergone a multi-million-dollar renovation in recent years, adding a family-friendly children’s play area and other upscale amenities.

Shops at Waldorf Center, formerly known as the Festival at Waldorf, is conveniently located at the intersection of Route 5/301 and Route 228 (Berry Road), and houses stores including Babies R Us, Dress for Less, Marshall’s, Michael’s Arts & Crafts, PetSmart and The Room Store.

The Shoppes at Berry Road on Route 228 next to Wawa features a mixture of office space and retail shops. And in La Plata proper, Rosewick Crossing is anchored by a Giant Food store and gas station and a Lowe's Home Center, and the shopping complex is enjoying a strong occupancy rate.

City Accolades

More and more small businesses are choosing Charles County, which is great to see. It has always been a beautiful place to live and is equally an excellent place to work.
