There were no chain stores and no fast-food restaurants in downtown Harbor Springs when summer visitors arrived by train in the late 1800s. You won’t find many here today, either.

A Lakeside Delight

Dining on the water is a big part of the downtown magic. For an unforgettable fine-dining experience, try Stafford’s Pier Restaurant. True to its name, the Pier Restaurant overlooks the town’s deep yacht basin providing guests with an exquisite menu and a glorious view. Visitors love to watch the sailboats from Dudley’s Deck at Stafford’s Pier. The restaurant is also famous for its Friday happy hour in the Wheelhouse Lounge and a lovely cuisine in the Pointer Room.

Visit Howse’s House

After a good meal, stop by a favorite after-dinner stop, Howse’s Candy House. With its tantalizing aromas and 60s décor, visitors line up to watch the third generation of candy makers “flip the fudge” and take the delicious caramels, brittles and chocolates from the antique stoves.

These merchants are just a small sampling the wonderfully eclectic shopping and dining experiences you’ll find in downtown Harbor Springs. Discovering the treasures and pleasures in this small downtown shopping district away from cookie-cutter chain stores draws visitors to the town from all around the world.
