Music, dance, theater, art galleries and professional entertainment come together in the Paramount Arts District, a lively swath of downtown St. Cloud. The centerpiece is Paramount Theatre and Visual Arts Center, which opened as a playhouse on Christmas Eve 1921. Patrons paid 50 cents to see a silent D.W. Griffith film with live orchestra accompaniment.
With more than 40 restaurants, downtown St. Cloud is a diner’s playground. Both high-end fine dining and regional chains are represented, yet a good number of downtown’s eateries are locally owned and just as popular.
When the weather permits, and even when it doesn’t, Minnesotans get out and go. St. Cloud residents don’t have to go very far, though, for the region has a bounty of options. Activities start downtown and radiate from there. Lake George Eastman Park gives residents and visitors easy access to a 7-acre lake and ground that includes an ice hockey rink, an outdoor pool, paths, paddleboats, picnic areas and fishing.
