Columbia Health Care Options Include Children's Hospital and Cancer Center

Columbia's health is in good hands. With a variety of different hospitals and care centers spread throughout the region, residents don't have to look far for excellent health care.

University of Missouri Health Care

The University of Missouri Health Care system operates seven hospitals and multiple clinics throughout the state of Missouri. Its 307-bed University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia operates the regions only Level 1 trauma center. Also on its register of exclusives is the George W. Peak Memorial Burn and Wound Center, the only burn and wound intensive care unit, the only kidney transplant program and the Chest Pain Center of Excellence. Also located in Columbia is the the university's Columbia Regional Hospital. 

University Children's Hospital offers over 30 pediatric subspecialties, and is the largest pediatric health-care facility in the region. The facility holds 27 pediatric and 16 adolescent private patient rooms. Recent additions include a new pediatric intensive care unit, which features 13 patient rooms and a neonatal intensive care unit.

Future plans for the health-care system include the new Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, slated for completion in early 2013. It will replace the current cancer center which has been operation since 1940.

Boone Hospital Center

Boone Hospital Center is a full-service hospital serving 26 mid-Missouri counties. It specializes in cardiology, neurology, oncology, surgical, obstetrical services and more. The hospital's WELLAWARE program was established to encourage community members to make healthy lifestyle choices through programs that advocate wellness and prevention. Boone Hospital holds 394 beds and operates a 24-hour emergency center.

Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital

Truman Memorial Veteran's Hospital is a 123-bed facility serving veterans in 44 Missouri counties. Special programs include substance abuse treatment, suicide awareness and prevention, support for homeless veterans, and a women veterans program. The hospital offers both inpatient and outpatient services and is a referral center for heart care services including open heart surgery.
