Staying out of the hospital doesn't necessarily mean you're leading a healthy lifestyle. In fact, it could be quite the opposite in Mooresville, where medical and health experts often invite those yet to suffer a serious illness to come in for some important advice.

Lake Norman Regional Medical Center

From skin-cancer screenings to babysitter safety classes, Lake Norman Regional Medical Center offers programs aimed at improving the health of everyone in the community. In addition, the comprehensive medical center provides high-tech medical services for all types of patients. The 123-bed hospital has specialties in orthopedics, women’s health care and weight-loss surgery. The hospital's maternity center offers labor-delivery-recovery suites featuring private Jacuzzi baths and home-like rooms for moms and babies following birth. Founded in 1926, the hospital has been owned by Health Management Associates since 1986. The $41 million medical campus sits on 30 acres near Interstate 77 at Exit 33.

Iredell Health System

Iredell Health System operates a 247-bed nonprofit hospital in Statesville. Founded in 1954, Iredell Memorial's flagship medical departments include advanced imaging, cancer treatment, cardiovascular services and women's and children's care. The health system has recently launched an eight-page newsletter to help bring wellness education to the community. Also available online, the newsletter provides health tips for everyday living, such as how to stay cool and hydrated when the temperatures soar and family strategies for avoiding childhood obesity. Iredell Memorial, a community-owned hospital, has approximately 140 physicians on staff and was voted one of the best places to work by the Charlotte Business Journal.

South Iredell Senior Center

The South Iredell Senior Center exists to support members of the community as they age. The philosophy of its founders is that aging is a normal developmental process that can be enhanced by peer relationships and the ability to make decisions for themselves. Thus, the programming at senior center often takes its cues from members. Activities at the center range from physical fitness classes to  theater productions and other types of entertainment. The center is at 202 N. Church St. in Mooresville, and membership is free for any Iredell County resident.
