Two hospitals consolidate into Merit Health Natchez
Late 2015 and early 2016 were busy times for Merit Health Natchez.
Until then, two separate hospitals served the Miss-Lou medical community: Natchez Regional Medical Center and Natchez Community Hospital. However, officials decided in 2015 to change the name of Natchez Regional Medical Center to Merit Health Natchez and decided to close Natchez Community Hospital and transfer its services to Merit Health Natchez.
As a result, Merit invested $25 million in the consolidation and provided a massive upgrade to the MHN building, which included a major renovation to its emergency room. The ER improvement was completed in January 2016 to handle the increased future patient population at the consolidated hospital.
Today, Merit Health Natchez is a modern 179-bed acute care facility fully accredited by The Joint Commission, and part of its sprawling campus on Sgt. Prentiss Drive is a spacious Doctors Pavilion. MHN serves patients in five Mississippi counties and two Louisiana parishes, with medical services that include cardiology, diagnostic testing, labor and delivery, physical therapy, radiology and surgery.
Focus on Progressive Care
Besides its prestigious connection with The Joint Commission, MHN holds national accreditations from the American College of Radiology, the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. MHN officials say the hospital will continue to focus on progressive care and will grow in key areas to keep pace with the changing needs of patients.
