Pursuing a college degree or acquiring new skills in Tupelo and northeast Mississippi has never been easier – and more convenient.

Campus Partnerships

The Advanced Education Center on the University of Mississippi-Tupelo campus is a partnership between the university, Itawamba Community College and the Mississippi University for Women.

The spacious $14 million building hosts more than 120 course offerings each semester, with courses specifically selected to meet the needs of students wanting to earn college credit while maintaining full-time employment or meeting family commitments.

AEC officials are quick to point out that their enrollment is not made up of the typical 18- or 19-year-old college student. The AEC offers undergraduate courses in subjects such as accounting, business, criminal justice, education, health sciences, liberal arts, paralegal studies and social work, plus a library science certificate program.

In addition, graduate courses are offered in education and a business program leading to an MBA.

Technology at the Center

The center is equipped with computer labs, large and small conference facilities, and videoconferencing facilities that link to campuses in Oxford, Booneville, South Haven, Greenville and Columbus.

The overall mission of the AEC is to offer an expanded presence of higher education not only in Tupelo, but the surrounding five-county area.

Besides the University of Mississippi-Tupelo as well as Itawamba Community College and the Mississippi University for Women, the business community and the public school systems are also involved with the AEC to make sure that the center remains vital and comprehensive for the region.

Today, the Advanced Education Center is utilized by approximately 1,000 students each semester, and the center also benefits the community by providing space for youth programs‚ seminars and other civic functions.
