Arts destinations, museums and community events make a place unique, draw tourists and keep residents entertained and always experiencing new things. Here’s a snapshot of the cultural options around Pocatello and Chubbuck.

Music

During warm-weather months, the 11,000-seat Portneuf Health Trust Amphitheatre – the largest of its kind in the state – entertains audiences with top acts from around the world while offering gorgeous mountain and lake views.

For year-round entertainment, Idaho State University’s $34 million L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center is one of the region’s outstanding spaces for concerts, plays and lectures.

For more live music, check out summer concerts at Lower Ross Park, or catch the Revive @ 5 concert series. And with live music throughout the year at the college bars around town, you won’t ever have to go far to find good music.

While there are plenty of shows in the area, the one not to miss is the biggest. The Biggest Show in Idaho Music Festival and Extravaganza is the place to be the week of July Fourth. With live music, bike and running races, and more American flags than you can shake a stick at, this event shows the community at its best.

Dance and Theater

For dancers (and fans) of all ages, Brindusa-Moore Ballet Academy has world-class programs of instruction and performance. If you like your shows a little more on the musical side, check out the Westside Players or the Palace Playhouse’s schedule of excellent plays and musicals. Or find the next up-and-coming talent at ISU’s School of Performing Arts events.

Visual Arts

There’s no place in Pocatello like Old Town, and no better way to experience it than during First Friday Art Walks. Local businesses open their doors to the arts, giving strollers and art gazers alike a reason to stop.

If you’re feeling inspired, the Pocatello Art Center hosts classes from mixed media to watercolors and pottery. Best of all, they’re  not only designed for beginners but also priced affordably.

History

Pocatello and Chubbuck are deeply rooted in history, and you can explore that heritage at the Bannock County Historical Museum and the Idaho Museum of Natural History. You can also immerse yourself in the past at the Fort Hall Replica, a replica of a historic fort that served travelers on the Oregon Trail.
