Iconic, Longtime Restaurants

One of Murfreesboro’s best-loved family restaurants is Demos’ Steak and Spaghetti House, which started in Murfreesboro in 1989 and has grown to include locations in Nashville, Lebanon and Hendersonville. The popular eatery specializes in several types of steaks as well as spaghetti dishes with 10 different sauces.

The Parthenon Grille is another long-standing, family-owned Murfreesboro eatery. It was started in 1981 by the Kyrikos family from Greece. In 1995, the Darsinos family, also from Greece, took over. Specialties include Steak Diane and rack of lamb.

One-of-a-Kind Eateries

Maybe it’s the smoked wings, or the ribs, or the chicken, but Slick Pig in Murfreesboro has been delighting fans of great barbecue since 1995. John Robinson opened his restaurant on East Main Street, and now there's another Slick Pig on Church Street.

Miller's Grocery in Christiana was in continuous operation as a country store for 75 years, then in 1995 the building was restored into a country cafe featuring home-style Southern cooking. International Cuisine Polynesian, Latin, Greek, Thai, Indian, Mexican, Italian and Mongolian cuisines – you’ll find them all here, no passport required.

Omni Hut in Smyrna is the oldest Asian-style restaurant in the state (1960), and its Polynesian fare is the real deal. Hand-cut steaks, kabobs, seafood, egg rolls and more – they’re all created with fresh ingredients from authentic, proprietary recipes.

Meanwhile, Cuzco Latin Restaurant in Murfreesboro offers South American dishes, and The Bunganut Pig Pub And Eatery in Murfreesboro is an Old English-style pub.

Farmers Markets

Farmers markets operate at a number of places in Rutherford County, including one on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University. Students man the small summer market and sell the fresh produce primarily to other students and faculty members, but anyone is welcome.

The town of Smyrna has a farmers market open Wednesdays throughout the summer, while Stones River Market is a summertime business in Christiana. And Rutherford County has been running its own long-standing market for several decades, open Tuesdays and Fridays from mid-June through October. It's in Murfreesboro on John R. Rice Boulevard.
