Located on what was once the Belle Monte estate, owned by Joseph and Adelicia Acklen, Belmont University is a private higher education institution in Nashville, TN.

Belmont University originally began as Belmont College in 1890 and offered education to ladies from elementary school through junior college. In 1913, the school became the Ward-Belmont School for Women, and the coed Belmont College in 1951.

Since 1991, the school has been known as Belmont University, one of the most rapidly growing Christian universities in the United States.

Belmont offers liberal arts and professional education, and is often recognized for its music and music business programs; both Rolling Stone and Time magazines have dubbed Belmont's Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business as one of the best music business programs in the nation.

However, students who plan to obtain non-musical degrees still have plenty of educational options at Belmont, as the school offers a variety of additional undergraduate degrees as well as 20 master's programs and three doctoral degrees.

Since it was established, Belmont has grown to serve and accommodate approximately 5,900 students from every state and 25 countries, and is home to 17 intercollegiate sports teams.
