Start your engines and drive over to the Richard Petty Museum to marvel at the history of NASCAR and one of its most legendary drivers.

“The King” of NASCAR, Richard Petty, displays his love of racing and everything southern throughout his 12,000-square-foot museum outside of Asheboro,NC.

The Petty family’s contribution to racing is chronicled along the walls in a detailed timeline beginning with the career of Richard’s father, Lee Petty, and continuing four generations.

Photos, old-school racing gear and awards documenting some of Petty’s 200 Winston Cup Series wins are just a few of the interesting items that can be viewed here.

One of the items people flock to see is the original No. 43 1970 Plymouth Superbird that Petty raced to eight victories.

Petty displays items representing some of his and his wife Lynda’s other passions, as well, such as her extensive doll collection and his guns, knives, and watches.
