Asheboro keeps golfers on their tees, with five nice courses to choose from. Here is some brief background on each.

Asheboro Country Club

Asheboro CC’s public course spans 6,473 yards and cuts through tall oaks, towering pines and a 22-acre spring-fed lake. The lake runs along holes 10, 11, 14, 15 and 18. Many of the course’s greens are well-bunkered and mounded, which makes for delicate approach shots.

Asheboro Municipal Golf Course

This is the granddaddy of courses in Asheboro, having been designed by Donald Ross and opened in 1935. The nine-hole Asheboro Municipal public facility plays to a maximum distance of 3,168 yards. The signature hole is No. 4, a par 5, stretching 528 yards from the back tees.

Pinewood Country Club

The area’s only private course was established in 1971 and spans 6,791 yards for a par of 72. The course offers a variety of terrain, with many trees and water hazards coming into play. The signature hole at Pinewood CC is No. 8, a 215-yard par 3 that requires a tee shot over water.

Tot Hill Farm Golf Club

Tot Hill Farm made the 2009 “best places to play in the U.S.” list by Golf Digest. The public venue opened in 2000, measures 6,543 yards and winds through a maze of rock formations and creeks. It’s five sets of tees challenge players of all abilities, and the expansive greens have tough pin placements.

Uwharrie Golf & Country Club

Uwharrie, opened in 1965, is popular with local residents. Fairways are tree-lined, and water comes into play on four holes. The front nine is rather flat, while the back nine is hilly with several undulating greens. The course’s modest 6,240-yard length makes good scoring a bit easier.

Other Courses in the Surrounding Area

Public courses include Denson’s Creek Golf Course in Troy, Green Acres Golf Club (nine holes) in Randleman, Holly Ridge Golf Links in Archdale, and Sandy Creek Golf Club in Staley.
