Asheville's shopping areas each offer a different experience

Shoppers, grab your walking shoes if you’re heading to Asheville – the city offers a variety of retail opportunities, including boutiques, shopping malls and antique shops, located throughout the city. Read on to learn more about Asheville’s thriving shopping scene.


Those in search of trendy duds may discover fabulous finds in downtown Asheville, which is home to several locally owned stores, as well as nationally recognized franchises.

Minx Boutique offers a wide selection of women’s clothing appropriate for all ages, and occasionally has men’s clothing in stock. Also a women’s boutique, Virtue specializes in casual dresses and offers additional items such as jackets, shoes, scarves and other merchandise.

Hip Replacements, a vintage-inspired shop, offers clothing for men and women, as well as jewelry, shoes and additional accessories. Union also provides clothing for both genders, and offers a variety of popular brands such as Ben Sherman, Diesel and Joe’s Jeans.

Urban Outfitters is also located downtown, and features an array of clothing, accessories and home goods for trendsetting men and women.

Shopping Malls

Shoppers interested in finding multiple retailers conveniently located under one roof may enjoy perusing Asheville’s shopping malls.

Offering more than 120 stores, Asheville Mall serves as Western North Carolina’s largest shopping center. The mall includes a variety of specialty stores, such as Old Navy, Eddie Bauer and Bath & Body Works, and also offers several department stores. Asheville Outlet Mall is also home to an array of retailers, and offers more than 60 stores.

Biltmore Village

Built in the late 1890s, the historic Biltmore Village was originally a community located at the entrance to George Vanderbilt’s Biltmore Estate. Now, the area is filled with a variety of locally owned shops offering unique merchandise.

2 on Crescent offers casual women’s clothing designed to be both comfortable and fashionable. In addition, the store sells shoes and accessories.

Also specializing in merchandise for women, Bellagio is a boutique featuring “Art to Wear” in the form of clothing, jewelry and accessories. Another women’s boutique, Fresh Produce, provides sportswear, as well as apparel for young girls.

Additional stores located in the Biltmore Village include Jos A. Bank Clothiers, Lilly Pulitzer, Monkees of Biltmore and White House Black Market.

Biltmore Antiques District

Offering a wide selection of antiques and collectibles such as furniture, estate jewelry and glassware, Biltmore Antiques District is home to several eclectic stores.

Located inside the district, Sweeten Creek Antique Mall includes 31,000 square feet of antiques, while Village Antiques at Biltmore offers French, English and American antiques from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

Additionally, the district’s Antique Tobacco Barn features 70,000 square feet of merchandise from more than 75 dealers, and Bryant Antiques in Biltmore, Ltd., provides an array of items from more than 70 dealers.

Other shops in the district include Oddfellows Antique Warehouse, Nostalgique, Estate Jewelry Ltd. and ScreenDoor.
