Since its opening in June 2007, Bear Trail Golf at Southwest Plantation has become the premier place to tee off in Onslow County. Nestled inside the Southwest Plantation residential community, the lush greens and natural wetlands accentuate the picturesque scenery of this 18-hole, par-72 championship golf course. This semiprivate course boasts rolling fairways and undulating greens surrounded by wooded areas. A series of handmade wooden bridges enhances the charm of the course, which was almost entirely built by its owners.
The White Oak Bakery in Jacksonville features a variety of freshly made baked goods, including breads, muffins, cannolis, cakes, cheesecakes, cookies and cinnamon rolls. The bakery also sells candies, cupcakes and dessert trays for any occasion and a variety of coffee drinks.
It may be a long-distance relationship, but the love affair between Onslow County and the nation’s first state-sponsored orchestra goes back more than six decades – evidence of the bond between the community and the North Carolina Symphony. Twice a year, audiences in Onslow County are wowed by stunning performances by the visiting orchestra, led by resident conductor William Henry Curry. In addition, the North Carolina Symphony comes back to Jacksonville to play a special concert for schoolchildren.
