HiToms Play Ball in Thomasville, NC
The Thomasville HiToms, a minor league baseball team, play every summer in historic Finch Field.
While they're not associated with Major League Baseball, they have produced a few MLB players and have enjoyed solid community support since their creation in 1999. Built in 1935 by Thomasville Furniture Industries, Finch Field has served Thomasville residents recovering from the horrors of World War I to locals keeping pace with the speed of the internet age. Constructed as a recreational outlet for T.F.I. employees, the ball park has hosted everything from junior high school track meets to religious revivals. Undoubtedly, however, Finch Field’s status in the High Point/ Thomasville community is best defined by its role as the area’s epicenter of baseball.
The Thomasville Chairmakers were Finch Field's first occupants back in 1937. Finishing that year with a record of 63 wins and 48 losses, the Chairmakers changed their name to the Orioles in 1938 and energized their faithful fans in more ways than one.
