A former fraternal lodge that opened in 1894 is today one of the nicest hotels in North Dakota.

All 17 rooms at the modern Hotel Donaldson are suites and are priced at $170-$330 a night. Every suite is designed and decorated by local artists and are equipped with items such as Bose stereos, huge bathtubs and Aveda bath products.

Complimentary truffles are served at night while free muffins and coffee are brought to everyone’s room in the morning. All fixtures throughout Hotel Donaldson are new and energy efficient, and there is an excellent workout and wellness facility situated in the basement.

Meanwhile, the rooftop of the building is planted with prairie grasses and features a two-person hot tub. The hot tub is closed after 5 p.m. when the rooftop’s Sky Prairie on the Roof lounge opens to the public until 11 p.m. in the warm-weather months.

As for food, the hotel’s HoDo Restaurant is known for serving the choicest meats, robust cheeses and hearty grains. The restaurant serves only dinner except for a Sunday brunch. Also at the hotel is the HoDo Lounge, which offers food from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
