Shopping in Fargo, ND

Shopping in Fargo satisfies nearly every retail need, as the city has just as impressive a selection of locally owned boutiques and specialty shops – most located downtown – as it does malls, shopping complexes and major national chains, primarily located to the west of downtown. Here are highlights of Fargo's shopping scene, from outdoor gear to vintage clothing.
Shopping in Downtown Fargo
For a shopping experience unique to Fargo, shoppers head for Broadway in downtown Fargo where locally owned shops line the street. A visit to Broadway can include a stop in Willi Nilli for a hand-crafted handbag, piece of jewelry or letterpress invitations, then shopping at Zandbroz Variety for books, toys, gifts or a treat at the store's old-fashioned sweet shop, Dakota Soda. Women in search of top names in fashion, beauty items and home decor will find them at SHANNALEE, which offers clothing, shoes, handbags, accessories and more. Boerth's Gallery provides framing services and original art, while fine art by local and regional artists also is on display and for purchase at Ecce Art & Yoga.
Creative gifts such as painted wine glasses, specialty food products, photo frames and more await at The Chocolate Frog Gift Shop. And speaking of food, natural and organic foods, vitamins and supplements line the shelves along with natural bath and beauty products, books and environmentally friendly cleaning products at Swanson Health Products. Looking for vintage clothing and furnishings? From Broadway, turn right on First Avenue North to find Revolver.
Directly south of the downtown core, a right turn on Main Street leads new and soon-to-be mothers to designer maternity clothing, nursery decor, bedding and accessories, as well as clothing for babies smaller than 4T at MODE Inc. Farther south on Fifth Street, shoppers will find hand-crafted jewelry, candles, pet-inspired items and other unusual gifts at VAVA Boutique.
West Acres Shopping Center and Surrounding Area
West of downtown Fargo is the largest shopping center in the region, West Acres Shopping Center. The recently renovated shopping destination has more than 120 shops and restaurants, including national retailers such as Macy's, Sears and JCPenney. In the food court, shoppers may take a break from buying to fill their bellies and warm their toes at the area fireplace. There's also the Prehistoric Playland for kids.
West Acres is at the heart of a retail cluster on the west side of Fargo, where shoppers will also find developments such as Westgate Commons, which is anchored by Old Navy, and T.J. Maxx Plaza, which is anchored by – you guessed it – T.J. Maxx. Department stores Walmart, Kohls and Gordmans are in the area, as are outdoors and sports retailers Scheels and Sportsman's Warehouse.
In addition, shoppers can check out a handful of locally owned specialty stores on the west side of town, such as the world-renowned Nordic Needle, Inc. needleworking shop, Vintage Point gift shop, Pout Baby Boutique and Books at a Fifth. At Vintage Point gift shop you can find Pride of Dakota and Minnesota Made food products, fresh roasted candied almonds and a variety of other locally made items.
Thrift Stores and Other Fargo Shopping Centers
Thrift shoppers will find more than 15,000 square feet of shopping at The Arc Attic Treasures on 43rd Street South. The store carries new and gently used items, including clothing, furniture, and household items and jewelry. The Arc Attic has a second, smaller location on North University Drive.
There are a handful of other shopping centers and specialty shops in Fargo as well. Southwest of downtown there are several shopping centers, including Southpointe Mall, which has approximately 18 stores; First Center South, which has approximately 14 stores; Market Square, which has 15 shops; and University Square, which has 10 stores. Farther south near Interstate 29 is Tiff's Tique, which carries home and kitchen decor and various collectibles. North of downtown you'll find Northport Shopping Center, which has approximately 14 stores.
Shopping for Antiques and More in Moorhead
Collectors know to go east for antiques. The region's largest antique mall, Moorhead Antique Mall, is located across the river in Moorhead, Minn. Shoppers are encouraged to set aside at least a couple of hours to browse antique furniture, linens, home decor, primitives and other items offered by approximately 80 vendors across 11,000 square feet of space. More antiques, decor and gifts may be found next door at An Old Friends Cottage.
Sales tax-exempt clothes and shoes also await shoppers in Moorhead. Moorhead Center Mall in downtown Moorhead includes a Herbergers, Outdoor Bunker and several other retailers. Another Moorhead shopping destination is EasTen Shopping Center on Highway 10 East.
