When it comes time for happy hour, Los Alamos residents have a few places within easy reach to quench their thirst: Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op, Pajarito Brewpub and Grill, and Cottonwood on the Greens at Los Alamos Golf Course (which many locals call “the club”).

“When you go out for a drink in Los Alamos, you’re probably going to the tub, the pub or the club,” says Ryn Herrmann, marketing manager for the Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corp.

Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op

Open since May 2015, Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op is Los Alamos’ first and only brewery, and it’s the fourth cooperative-owned brewery in the U.S. Its unusual name is a nod to the area’s rich history – it references Los Alamos’ historic bathtub row, which was named during the Manhattan Project era because the buildings on that street were the only ones in the community with bathtubs.

Bathtub Row includes both a brewery and a family-friendly taproom, serving up an ever-changing variety of handmade craft beers. A few favorites include Hoppenheimer IPA, Uncle Smokey’s Pumpkin and Black Point Stout. Although Bathtub Row doesn’t make its own food yet, it partners with the Los Alamos Cooperative Market to serve soups, sandwiches and snacks.

Not a beer lover? No problem. The taproom also offers New Mexico wine and hard cider, as well as non-alcoholic drinks like Blue Sky beverages, San Pellegrino and Red Rock Roaster Coffee.

Pajarito Brewpub and Grill

This favorite Los Alamos nightlife spot is known for its wide (and delicious) beer selection, many of which were created in New Mexico. For example, a couple of Pajarito Brewpub and Grill’s on-tap options include Santa Fe Pale Ale and Santa Fe Happy Camper from nearby Santa Fe Brewing Co., while one of its bottled choices is Rio Grande Chile Cerveza from Sierra Blanca Brewing Co. in Moriarty.

Pajarito Brewpub and Grill also serves wine, and its expansive food menu includes Mediterranean nachos, chicken wings, burgers, soups and salads. If the food and drink choices aren’t enough to draw you in, there’s trivia night every Monday, and on Tuesdays at 8 p.m., crowds gather to sing karaoke.

Cottonwood on the Greens

Offering a gorgeous view of Los Alamos Golf Course, Cottonwood on the Greens is one of the city’s top destinations for fine dining and romantic ambiance. It’s also a great place to grab a cold one, thanks to its bar stocked with 12 on-tap selections like Wildflower Wheat from Albuquerque’s Marble Brewery and State Pen Porter from Santa Fe Brewing Co., as well as nearly 30 wines. Because Cottonwood is owned by the same folks who own Pajarito Brewpub and Grill, patrons can rest assured the two establishments will not overlap in available brews.

The food is great, too, with menu items like dashi salmon, goat cheese ravioli and seafood fra diavolo highly recommended by locals. Another reason this place is great (although completely unrelated to alcohol)? It’s one of the few breakfast and brunch spots in Los Alamos, offering popular dishes like French toast and biscuits and gravy.
