Los Alamos Medical Center is the community’s major health-care provider, but residents also have access to outpatient facilities, urgent care clinics, and a nursing and rehabilitation center that’s part of the Los Alamos Retirement Community. In addition, the nearby Santa Fe Community Based Outpatient Clinic serves eligible veterans.

Los Alamos Medical Center

The community is primarily served by the Los Alamos Medical Center, which cares for more than 42,000 people in northern New Mexico and employs nearly 300 medical professionals, making it one of the area’s top employers. Part of the Los Alamos Physician and Hospital Organization, LAMC is a 47-bed acute-care facility that provides medical, surgical, obstetrical, pediatric, emergency and diagnostic services. The medical center is accredited by The Joint Commission, earning the organization’s Gold Seal of Approval in 2013. The same year, LAMC invested more than $1 million into the facility, adding new equipment and updating and improving its existing technology.

The LAMC campus is also home to the Los Alamos Medical Care Clinic, a multi-specialty practice that is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The clinic provides outpatient services in allergy and immunology, asthma, dermatology, family medicine, internal medicine, wound care and urgent care.

Medical Associates of Northern New Mexico Walk-In Clinic

The Medical Associates of Northern New Mexico Walk-In Clinic specializes in family practice, internal medicine, cardiology, nephrology and endocrinology. Patients can receive preventative exams, hearing and vision tests, skin cancer screenings, respiratory evaluations, care for minor fractures and more. Conveniently located on the LAMC campus, the clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Trinity Urgent Care

Open daily from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., Trinity Urgent Care serves Los Alamos residents who are in need of quick care for minor emergencies, illnesses and injuries. The locally owned and operated facility can assist patients with sports injuries, lacerations, open wounds, urinary infections, gynecological issues, respiratory ailments and much more. No appointments are needed, and wait times are typically short.

Sombrillo Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center

Sombrillo Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center cares for the community’s senior population by assisting with stroke and cardiac recovery, pain management, wound and complex medical care, diabetes care and more. The facility also includes a rehab-to-home unit designed for short-term rehabilitation, and its “special care neighborhood” accommodates patients with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related conditions.

Santa Fe Community Based Outpatient Clinic

Los Alamos veterans can receive medical care at the Santa Fe Community Based Outpatient Clinic, which is less than an hour’s drive away. Part of the Albuquerque-based New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System, the clinic offers primary care services, such as blood draws, doctor evaluations, electrocardiograms, immunizations and routine laboratory tests. The facility is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
