For upscale dining in Johnstown, Sam’s Seafood Steakhouse is hard to beat. This cozy, Greek- and Italian-style restaurant, a local favorite for lunch and dinner since opening in 2009, serves a wide range of dishes and flavors, great wine and delicious, freshly baked bread.

As the name implies, specialties of the house at Sam's rely on fresh seafood and charbroiled steaks. Seafood-lovers can start with the flash-fried calamari appetizer, served classically with homemade marinara sauce or bistro-style tossed with peppers, garlic, tomatoes, fresh greens, oil and vinegar. Diners choose entrees from an array of succulent temptations, like juicy seared scallops, fried jumbo shrimp and linguini with white clam sauce. Other favorites are the specialty cut steaks, all certified Angus beef, cooked to order and topped with owner Sam Vahaviolos’ own secret steakhouse garlic butter.

With more than 50 different items on the menu, ranging from Asian and Mediterranean specialties to New England classics like the broiled seafood platter, customers usually find something they crave easily. To round out the meal, order one of their tasty homemade desserts, like a slice of tiramisu cake or a scoop of Italian ice.

Sam’s Seafood Steakhouse is typically buzzing with activity, especially on weekends when the bar has live music, so make reservations if you’re planning to eat. And don’t forget to say hello to Sam. Most nights he can be found in the dining area, visiting tables of customers both new and old.
