Ogden, UT Prides Itself on Strong Arts Offerings

Ogden, UT is revitalizing itself in 2012, and the arts are a key component in the city's renewed effort for cultural vitality.

The community is home to a number of quality arts venues that represent everything from ballet and opera to movies and paintings. One of Ogden's leading attractions is Peery's Egyptian Theater, which hosts theatrical and performing arts events plus bills itself as Utah's only movie palace. It has a terra cotta facade and atmospheric ceiling, and a Wurlitzer pipe organ that adds to the overall ambience.

Also showcasing performing arts in Ogden is the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts, which stages symphony, ballet and theater performances on the campus of Weber State University. Also on campus is the Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery, devoted to contemporary art exhibitions and educational programs.

The Eyes Have It

Another Ogden venue is Eccles Community Art Center, which promotes the arts in all disciplines. The center assists local cultural organizations and individual artists in presenting their work to the public, thereby making quality artistic experiences available to the community.

Meanwhile, the Historic Union Station's Gallery at the Station hosts monthly art exhibits from local and regional artists, and an annual Ogden Arts Festival at Union Station combines live music, artist booths and kids Art-ivities in a free community event. Also, a monthly First Friday Art Stroll showcases painters, ceramists, print-makers, photographers, and mixed media artists at more than a dozen museums and galleries. In addition, the Palette Club of Ogden promotes art and meets monthly to discuss opportunities for art exhibitions and competition.
