Claremore, OK offers a variety of sports and recreation, including cheering on the Rogers State University Hillcats.

Discover some of the best ways to get active and enjoy the outdoors in Claremore, and find out why the community's Hillcats sports teams are celebrating:

Lakes

Enjoy fishing and boating on Claremore Lake and Oologah Lake, two of northeastern Oklahoma’s most beautiful bodies of water. Located about 15 miles outside of Claremore, Oologah Lake is a favorite sailing destination due to its wide stretches of water that are perfect for catching wind.

Claremore Lake is part of Claremore Lake Park, which offers walking, jogging and picnicking opportunities, while Oologah Lake’s 180 miles of shoreline are ideal for camping.

Mountain Biking

Grab your bike and head to the 4.5-mile, single-track Claremore Mountain Bike Trail & Nature Walk, located just east of Claremore Lake. Bikers have three loops to choose from, including the Waterfront Loop that covers just over a quarter of a mile, the .4-mile Hanging Rock Trail and the 1.38-mile Sawtooth Loop. The volunteer-maintained trails are also open to hikers of all skill levels.

Claremore Parks

In addition to Claremore Lake Park, the community includes American Legion Park, where the Claremore Zebras play baseball; Dogwood Park, which includes playground equipment; the 20-acre Learning Elms Park; Lion’s Kiddie Park and Loshbaugh Kiddie Park, both of which are handicapped-accessible and include playgrounds; Lynn Riggs Park, where a gazebo plays host to summer concerts and special events; Pecan Park, a 20-acre complex that’s home to the Claremore Girls Softball Association; the 30-acre Powers Park complex that hosts Rogers County Youth Baseball Association games; Redbud Park, situated alongside a creek; Walnut Park, which is Claremore’s 40-acre adult softball complex; and Will Rogers Park, located near Rogers State University, which features a splash pad; and the 30-acre Claremore Soccer Complex, home to the Claremore Soccer Club.

Rogers State University Hillcats

RSU received notice in 2016 that it has been recommended for full National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II membership – a goal the university has worked toward for several years. Beginning in fall 2016, each of the school’s Hillcats sports teams now compete in the division and, for the first time, will be eligible to participate in the NCAA-sanctioned Division II athletics postseason competition.

“NCAA is a major brand, and the organization adds instant credibility and stability when it’s affiliated with an athletic program,” says RSU’s director of athletics. “It impacts the entire university, not just the athletic department, and it took people all across campus to make it happen.”

Claremore Expo Center

The Claremore Expo Center hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including equestrian competitions, concerts, dog shows, graduations, livestock auctions, tractor pulls and trade shows. The RSU Hillcats basketball teams also call the venue home, and it’s the site of the annual Green Country Classic Ranch Rodeo.
